Mrs.Gold's Children: Black Gold
Mrs. Gold is the mother of all African children who were sold into slavery in America. Journey with Mrs. Gold as she recounts colorful anecdotes. Spoken word, song, dance and the portrayal of various characters are interwoven into her stories.
About the Artist
Baindu, a native Brooklynite, enjoys using various mediums of the performing arts to conduct storytelling. She was a member of New Perspectives Theatre Company Women’s Work Short Play Lab. Her monologue, Don’t, was featured in 50in50: What Place Do We Have In This Movement? at the Billie Holiday Theatre; which was curated by Dominique Morisseau. Her play Corporatesthenics was selected for the Downtown Urban Arts Festival; of which, Reg E. Gaines was the Artistic Director.
Sold out audiences attended Baindu’s one-woman show Platform Griot; at the WorkShop Theatre. Her play Hair Ye, Hair Ye… won the Midtown International Theatre Festival Short Play Lab. Her full length play, Tenneh, qualified for the Princess Grace Awards finals, was “A-listed” for the Garland Lee Thompson, Sr. Readers’ Theatre at the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival and featured in the DC Black Theatre Festival New Works Reading Series.
Baindu competed in Short & Sweet Theatre Festival Dubai and Abu Dhabi; and won awards for Best Actress, Best Director, Best Script and Best Overall Production. She has danced with numerous dance companies. Her choreography, Four Corners, qualified for the semi-finals in Short & Sweet Dance Festival Dubai. She released an EP called Desert Draft, which is available on Bandcamp. Baindu is extremely grateful to God for all gifts bestowed upon her and every opportunity presented.
